But Wait, There's More!

What does Jesus actually see when he looks at our lives, our churches, and our faith? In this deep dive into Revelation chapter 3, we wrestle with one of the most uncomfortable questions a believer can face: is there a gap between how we appear spiritually and who we actually are before God? Through the final three letters to the churches of Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea, we discover that reputation, resources, and influence mean very little to the one who sees everything. Sardis had everyone convinced they were thriving, yet Jesus called them dead. Philadelphia had almost nothing by the world's standards, yet Jesus commended them for their faithfulness. And Laodicea had it all, yet Jesus told them they were wretched, poor, blind, and naked. The thread running through all three letters is both convicting and clarifying: God is not measuring us by what we have or how we appear. He is measuring us by our faithfulness to him. As we sit with these letters, we are invited to stop evaluating others and start honestly asking what Jesus sees in us that we may be refusing to acknowledge.
