What We Believe

Anchor City Church is a Bible-believing church in Hutto, Texas, committed to helping people know Jesus, follow Jesus, and make Jesus known. The following statements summarize the biblical convictions that shape our teaching, ministry, and mission.

Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second Person of the Trinity. He is fully God and fully man. Born of the virgin Mary, Jesus lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, and rose bodily from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures. He ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He reigns today, and He will return again in power and glory. Jesus is the only Savior of the world and the only way to the Father. (John 1:1–14; John 14:6; John 20:28; Isaiah 9:6; Philippians 2:5–11; 1 Timothy 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Acts 1:9–11)

We believe the Bible is God's inspired Word. Although it was written by human authors, they were guided by the Holy Spirit so that every word of Scripture is true, trustworthy, and without error in all that it teaches. The Bible reveals who God is, His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ, and how we are to live. Because God has spoken through His Word, it is our final authority for faith, doctrine, and daily living. (2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21; Psalm 119:105; Hebrews 4:12)

We believe there is one true and living God who eternally exists in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are distinct Persons, yet one God, equal in nature, power, glory, and eternity. God is the Creator and Sustainer of all things. He is holy, loving, just, merciful, all-powerful, all-knowing, and unchanging.

We believe every person is created in the image of God and has inherent dignity and worth. God created humanity, both male and female, to know Him, reflect His character, and glorify Him. We were created for a relationship with God and to steward His creation. (Genesis 1:26–27; Psalm 8:3–8; Colossians 1:16)

Although humanity was created good, sin entered the world through Adam's disobedience. As a result, every person is born with a sinful nature and has chosen to sin, separating us from God. Because of sin, we cannot save ourselves and are completely dependent on God's grace. (Genesis 3:1–24; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:12; Romans 6:23)

We believe salvation is the free gift of God's grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Because of His death and resurrection, those who repent of their sin and place their trust in Jesus are forgiven, made new, adopted into God's family, and given the promise of eternal life. Salvation cannot be earned through good works but is received by grace through faith.

We believe the Holy Spirit is God, the third Person of the Trinity. He convicts the world of sin, draws people to faith in Jesus Christ, and lives within every believer. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live godly lives, produces spiritual fruit, equips the Church with spiritual gifts, and guides us into truth as we follow Christ.

We believe the Church is the body of Christ, made up of all who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ. The Church exists to glorify God by making disciples, proclaiming the Gospel, worshiping together, serving one another, and loving our communities. Every believer is called to actively participate in the life of the local church through worship, biblical community, service, generosity, and sharing the hope of Jesus with the world. (Matthew 28:18–20; Acts 2:42–47; Ephesians 4:11–16; 1 Corinthians 12:12–27; Hebrews 10:24–25)

We believe Jesus commanded His followers to practice baptism and Communion. Baptism is the public declaration of a believer's faith in Jesus Christ and symbolizes our identification with His death, burial, and resurrection. Communion is a time of worship and remembrance in which believers reflect on Christ's sacrifice, proclaim His death, and celebrate the new covenant until He returns. We believe Jesus Christ will personally and visibly return to judge the living and the dead and to establish His eternal kingdom. Those who have placed their faith in Christ will enjoy eternal life with Him, while those who reject Him will face eternal separation from God. The promise of Christ's return gives believers hope, encourages holy living, and reminds us to faithfully share the Gospel until He comes. (John 14:1–3; Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16–18; Titus 2:11–14; Revelation 21:1–5)
